DeLand SunRail?

Question: When is SunRail coming to DeLand?
Answer: Hard to say.
Unfortunately next year’s federal budget does not include money to extend SunRail service to DeLand. However, earlier this summer the Florida Department of Transportation applied for a Tiger VII grant to seek $35 million in federal dollars to expand the commuter train service to the Volusia county seat.
Getting this grant is very competitive. There is $500 million up for grabs and 950 grant applications.
The DeLand application is strong because it’s supported by 2 dozen letters of endorsement from Central Florida leaders and more than 1,200 people who signed an online petition organized by this website.
Expanding SunRail to DeLand will help ease traffic congestion in western Volusia County and open up a wide variety of education, employment and cultural opportunities for people living in the I-4 corridor.
