Fun for SunRail riders

SunRail riders have numerous opportunities for fun this Thursday and Friday because there is so much going on along the SunRail corridor.

Winter Park is having a double header (2 events on the same night in Winter Park) on Thursday. Starting at 5 p.m. the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce and Park Avenue Merchants Association is hosting its Sip, Shop & Stroll event. Just as the name suggests, you stroll beautiful Park Avenue, enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres and browse the shops. There is a $25 per head fee, reservations are recommended.

Participating shops and restaurants include: Al Bacio, Alex and Ani, Bebe’s Baby Boutique, Boca Kitchen Bar Market, California Closets, Cocina 214 Cottonways, Filthy Rich of Winter Park, Hutton, Luma on Park, Nelore, Peterbrooke Chocolatier of Winter Park, Rieker Shoes, Scout & Molly’s, Simmons Jewelers, The Ancient Olive, The Doggie Door, The Grove, The Impeccable Pig, The Spice & Tea Exchange
Timothy’s Gallery, UMI, Winter Park Land Co. and Writer’s Block Bookstore.

While this event ends at 8 p.m. there’s still more fun to be had in Winter Park during the Popcorn Flick that begins at 8 p.m. at the band stand in Central Park. The movie “Batman” will be screened. Be sure to check your SunRail schedule so you don’t miss your train home. The movie event is free.

Speaking of free and Winter Park, don’t forget that if you present your SunRail ticket you can get free admission to the Morse Museum, just a 5-minute stroll from the Winter Park SunRail station. The Morse Museum (which is wonderfully air conditioned) closes at 4 p.m. so why not come down for lunch and stay through the evening.

Winter Park certainly doesn’t have a monopoly on the fun Thursday night. Our friends in Sanford will be hosting their “Alive After 5” street party. We bet you already guessed that the event – themed “Back to the Beach – starts at 5 p.m. Held in historic downtown Sanford, the party is free and offers food, music and art. Hop off at the SunRail station and jump on the free shuttle van to get to the fun.

Friday night will be off the chain in Orlando and Altamonte Springs. Well, maybe not off the chain, but there will be lots to do.

Our friends at the Orlando Conductor Crawl will be hosting their monthly meet up, starting at 6 p.m. This month, crawlers will gather at Ceviche Tapas on Church Street in downtown Orlando to begin the SunRail-oriented pub crawl. Be sure to give Sarah a shout out for us. Click the link for more info: https://www.facebook.com/OrlandoConductorCrawl?fref=ts

At 8 p.m. history will be made when the legendary Rolling Stones perform at downtown Orlando’s Amway Center.

Chances are if you’re reading this article that you already have tickets to the show. One little reminder though, if you take SunRail to the show you’ll need another way to get home because the last northbound train leaves Church Street at 10:30 p.m. No matter how much you love SunRail, we can’t imagine you leaving Mick and the boys early to catch the train.

Up in Altamonte Springs the city is hosting its Friday Night Live musical show, starting at 8 p.m. The event at Cranes Roost park is free and features Deja performing reggae, soca, calypso.

If you attend any of these events please be sure to share selfies with us on Twitter and Facebook.
